We’ll encircle the Parliament in a week
The government has deceived the farmer community and if funds needed to buy fertilizer are not credited to the relevant bank accounts within the next week the farmer community will definitely encircle the Parliament states All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation. This was stated at a press conference held today (5th).
The National Organizer of the Federation Namal Karunaratne said the government, after slashing the fertilizer subsidy, promised farmers money to buy fertilizer. However, funds have not been credited to relevant accounts he pointed out. The farmer community, as they couldn’t wait until the government sends funds, mortgaged their valuables to find money to buy fertilizer. However, fertilizer is not available in the market and the farmer community has to go from place to place looking for fertilizer pointed out the National Organizer of the All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation.
The participants had brought paddy saplings to the media briefing. The General Secretary of All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation T.B. Sarath and several others also participated.
