Moratuwa ‘Ran Dam’ Battle Today
The one-day cricket match, ‘Moratuwa Ran Dam Satana’ between St. Anthony’s Vidyalaya, Kadalana and Weera Puran Appu Vidyalaya will be held today, Sunday May 8 for the second successive year at the Moratuwa De Zoyza International Stadium.
The one hundred years old St. Anthony’s Vidyalaya, Kadalana, has provided education to thousands of students, where the internationally renowned cricketer Ajantha Mendis is also an old boy. However, recently the number of students of the school went down to 123 and was on the verge of closing down. With the introduction of a new management, the school has engaged in many extracurricular activities along with education and has grown up to 260 students with the support of past pupils as well.
In 2015, the school won the ‘Moratuwa Ran Dam Satana’ by 91 runs and it was a great achievement by the school.
Ashen Sameera leads the cricket team and Radika Priyashankar is the Vice Captain. On the strategy of Ravindra Anthony, a former Captain, Lahiru Fernando, a member of the staff and old boy Anoj De Mel provide their support and guidance to uplift sport in the school.
Being an old boy of the school, the Mayor of Moratuwa, Samanlal Fernando’s service to the school should be appreciated and the staff and parents of the school render a great service to organise this event.
The Principal of the Weera Puran Appu Vidyalaya, Moratuwa, Deepal Mendis is also an old boy of St. Anthony’s Vidyalaya, Kadalana. With his guidance and leadership, Weera Puran Appu Vidyalaya has been able to gain many achievements in cricket since 2015. Nishara Omalka Fernando acts as the coach of the team.
