Tourist arrivals reach unprecedented growth
Sri Lanka‘s tourist arrivals will reach unprecedented growth this year. The number of visitors is expected to reach the 800,000 mark.
According to Sri Lanka Tourism the number of arrivals rose 27.2 percent in September from a year earlier and continued to rise every month on a year-on-year basis since May 2009. A top official of Sri Lanka Tourism said the construction of new hotels and refurbishment of properties across the country will stimulate tourism growth.
The Government is targeting an annual revenue of 2.75 billion dollars by 2016 from 2.5 million tourists. The country‘s beaches, hills, religious and historic sites will draw tourists, while aiming at 3 billion dollars in foreign direct investment.
