UNP to protest if bill is not amended
The UNP says the party would today officially express its opposition to the bill on the revival of underperforming and underutilized assets in parliament today.
The party is to also protest in the House if the government tries to push the bill without making any amendments proposed by the opposition.
UNP MP Dr. Harsha de Silva told The Sunday Leader said the UNP opposed the bill in principle and would take the necessary steps to express opposition to the bill when the legislation is to be taken up for debate tomorrow (9).
Dr. de Silva observed that the UNP has called on the government to withdraw the piece of legislation or to introduce certain amendments to give clarity to the whole acquisition process.
When asked what action the UNP was planning on taking in the event the government planned to bulldoze with the legislation in parliament without any amendments, he said the party would take appropriate action to object to the bill.
