SLTB owes EPF and creditors a sum of Rs.16bn: Transport Minister
Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Minister of Transport revealed in Parliament on Friday that the Sri Lanka Transport Board owes the Employees Provident Fund and creditors a sum of Rs.16 billion.
The revelation was made in response to a question raised by Parliamentarian Dr. Jayampathi Wickramaratne.
“When the EPF payments were not made, we took over that responsibility”, said the Minister of Transport, Nimal Siripala de Silva, who pointed out that the Government has agreed to allocate Rs.16 billion for this
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe noted that for a certain period, the state corporations did not make the provident fund payments of its employees, and cases are being filed against the newly-appointed directors and some are in hiding.
“We should have the right to take legal action against the former directors”, charged the Prime Minister.
