Karu Jayasuriya goes online
UNP’s Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya who has announced his candidature to contest for the UNP’s leadership position, launched his official website, www.karujayasuriya.lk today.
The launching of Jayasuriya’s official website comes just after a day, where he challanged the leadership of UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The website was launched in Colombo, amidst a huge gathering of guests which also included UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa.
In his vision statement, which is published on the home page of the website Jayasuriya says, “My vision is of a strong and united nation where the economy flourishes, governance is marked by transparency and accountability, leading to a harmonious and tolerant society where there is space for every citizen to improve their life chances and lead more meaningful lives”.
Jayasuriya, who is an elected MP from the Gampaha district, is an old boy of Ananda College, Colombo.
He entered the political scene in the year 1994 by joining the United National Party.
Many of the UNP reformists want Karu Jayasuriya to take over the UNP leadership by taking on the incumbent leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Wickremesinghe is blamed for a series of electoral defeats the UNP suffered, since he took over the party in the mid 90’s.
