50,000 homes yet to be constructed in the North and East, says Sajith
Expenditure heads of the Ministry Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities were taken up for debate in Parliament today. Co-Deputy Leader of the United National Party Sajith Premadasa who commenced the debate, stated that the Government’s plan of constructing one million homes in six years is not a practical target. He also charged that 50,000 homes which were to be constructed in the North and East with the assistance of the Indian Government are yet to be constructed. Courtesy: NewsFirst
Joining the debate, Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna denied these charges.
UNP parliamentarian Sujeewa Senasinghe who joined the debate next, criticised the housing projects launched by the Government. In reply, Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Wimal Weerawansa denied all charges levelled against the one million housing plan. He added that the target of constructing one million homes is one which is shared by a number of ministries.
