Torch of Hope rally on day 7; lights up Trincomalee, Kantale, Polonnaruwa
Today is day seven of the Torch of Hope rally which is currently underway to muster support for the Sri Lankan athletes representing the country at the forthcoming Olympics.
The rally which is organised by the Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited also received the support of the Ministry of Sports, The National Youth Services Council as well as the Ministry of Education.
After receiving blessings from the Thirukonehswaram Kovil in Trincomalee, the Torch of Hope rally officially began touring the country on its seventh day on Wednesday.
The first stop of the rally today was in the town of Trincomalee and saw the participation of the Senior DIG of the Eastern Province, Nimal Perera and Trincomalee Director of Prisons Adhikari Prasad.
The torch ceremony which was began its journey on Wednesday morning received a gracious welcome as it passed the Trincomalee Vigneshwara Maha Vidyalaya.
Thereafter, the Torch of Hope neared the town of Kantale which saw the participation of Kindergarten students who marched on with the Torch of Hope.
Students of the Kantale Madhya Maha Vidyalaya extended their well wishes to the Torch of Hope as well.
The welcoming ceremony which was held at the Kantale Agrabodhi National School saw large crowds gather, including students of the school as well as local government politicians.
Passing the Kantale town, he Torch of Hope then arrived at the historic city of Polonnaruwa.
The Torch of Hope received a warm welcome as it neared the Polonnaruwea train station.
The torch was received by the Chief Inspector of Police of Polonnaruwa, M.S.S. Farool and the Polonnaruwa Additional District Secretary M.D.S Ekanayake.
