Wasantha Samarasinghe makes remarks about politicians in prison

- newsfirst.lk

Wasantha Samarasinghe of the Voice Against Corruption Movement, at a media briefing convened on Sunday, made remarks about politicians in prisons.

He noted that as an organisation they have submitted hundreds of complaints, adding that, with some effort they waited wondering why the current government was not acting on new files as there were too many files from the previous government.

Wasantha Samarasinghe went on to note that the rogues go to prison as if they have committed some heroic act.

‘ We have grave suspicions about this activity. There is a case against Kumara Welgama alleging he paid Rs.50,000 to a consultant. While there is a case against Welgama, current cabinet Minister Kiriella has appointed 62 consultants and is spending public funds on them. Doesn’t this cabinet have eyes or ears to hold him accountable? When punishing the corrupt, you shouldn’t wait to finish up the old files before tackling the new ones”, says Wasantha Samarasinghe.
