Sri Lanka Customs to look closer into sugar containers
Sri Lanka Customs has decided to subject sugar containers imported from Brazil to a thorough inspection.
Customs Media Spokesperson Dharmasena Kahandawa said this step was taken following the recent seizure of cocaine from a sugar container imported from Brazil.
When News 1st questioned the media spokesperson as to why sugar containers imported from Brazil were not thoroughly inspected prior to the incident, he said the customs does not have the capability to inspect all containers that arrive from foreign countries.
He further said that containers are inspected based on an accepted methodology coupled with information received by the customs.
Dharmasena Kahandawa also pointed out that it was the first time cocaine was discovered in a sugar container imported from Brazil.
