Over 40,000 benefit from first phase of Nila Mehewara – a concept of President Sirisena
The “Nila Mehewara” Mobile Service Programme was launched to enable people to find solutions to their problems.
The “Nila Mehewara” Mobile Service Programme was inaugurated in the Polonnaruwa district as per a concept of President Maithripala Sirisena. The objective of this service is to identify the issues and the needs of the people, and bring together the state and private sector institutions together with the people in order to address those issues.
The service includes the issuing of birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates, national identity cards, solve issues surrounding the Samurdhi allowances, elderly allowances, and pensions as well as grant loans for small businesses.
The service also organised medical clinics and works to resolve matters surrounding lands. The service also conducts programmes and workshops for the youth on career development.
For a period of a month the service was provided at seven locations in the Polonnaruwa district with the assistance of 53 public institutions, departments and ministries.
Forty two thousand seven hundred and thirty four (42,734) persons benefitted from the first phase of the mobile service which took place in the Polonnaruwa district. Issues of 36,168 persons were resolved on the spot.
