Sri Lanka exempts transit passengers and children under 12 years from charging visa fees
Sri Lanka has decided to stop charging visa fees from children under the age of 12 years who are visiting Sri Lanka.
The Government has also decided to exempt the transit passengers who stay in the country up to 48 hours from charging visa fees.
Cabinet of Ministers has approved the move, which the Authorities believe will help Sri Lanka to attract more tourists as more of them will start visiting the country with their children.
Sri Lanka, recently also established a system where foreigners can obtain visas online.
The Island’s tourism industry is on a steady boom and saw the arrival figures jumping to 850,000 tourists during the year 2011, the highest ever achieved during a year.
