Grace period for SLTB employees comes to an end
The grace period given for employees of the Sri Lanka Transport Board to resign voluntarily ends on Sunday.
Chairman of the SLTB, Ramal Siriwardene, said that 1953 employees had tendered their letters of resignation during the grace period. Based on requests made by the employees, the grace period that was to end on June 31, was extended by a month until today.
As part of the restructuring programme of the SLTB, the government had hoped to provide a voluntary retiring scheme to over 8000 SLTB employees. However, only 1953 persons had applied for it.
Siriwardene said that those who applied for the Voluntary Retiring Scheme, will be paid compensation by September.
