Former national cricketer shot dead in Ambalangoda
A former National Cricketer and the chairman of the Galle Cricket Club, Halambage Premasiri has been shot dead by two unidentified gunmen.
The incident has taken place when the deceased was travelling home with his twelve year old son. The shooting has taken place in the Manimulla area in Ambalangoda around 8.45 on Friday evening.
The 53-year old victim, Halambage Premasiri who was a businessmen by profession has been shot while he was going home from his business establishment.
The police stated that the shooting was carried out by two individuals who had fled the scene in a white coloured car.The victim’s twelve-year-old son had also been in the vehicle when the shooting took place. He is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries.
Late Halambage Premasiri was a former national cricketer and the chairman of the Galle Cricket Club. He also headed the controversial Galle district cricket elections that was held recently.
Premasiri has played 70 first class cricket matches, while representing the Bloomfeild and Singha Cricket clubs. He was in the panel of the Inside Sports program which was aired on our sister channel Sirasa TV recently.
