Gammedda100-days Initiative begins renovations to Kadduwa Cheenagahabena Canal
With the People – For the Peopl , the News 1st Gammadda 100 Day Initiative brought back smiles to yet another village that has been neglected over the course of time.
Today, renovation of the Cheenagahabena canal in the Kadduwa Village in Matara commenced on Tuesday. The shattered hopes of the people in Kadduwa, deprived of a proper harvest for years, were revived once again today.
The reconstruction work of the Cheenagahabena canal got underway following the inauguration ceremony that took place under the auspices of Channel Head of News 1st Suranga Senanayake and Udaya Wanniarachchi from the Gammedda Secretariat.
Regional Irrigation Engineer Thilanga Subasinghe and members of the Department of Irrigation joined hands with News 1st for this project. The villagers extended their gratitude on the onset of the reconstruction work of the Cheenagahabena canal which was not subject to any reconstruction activities for three decades.
The people of Kadduwa will be able to reap a massive harvest following the reconstruction of the canal which will be termed as the Cheenagahabena Reservoir.
