Leash SAITM fancy thugs immediately – NBF

National Bhikku Front (NBF) has issued a statement condemning the attack on students of Sabaragamuwa students at a meeting held by parents and well-wisher s of SAITM private medical school at Malabe. When members of the audience wanted to ask questions from the speakers a tense situation developed and students complain they were attacked by a group lead by the chairman of Private Bus owner s' Association Gemunu Wijeratna. Several students were injured and had to be hospitalized.

The statement issued by NBF:

We condemn with abhorrence the attack on student activists of Sabaragamuwa University at a meeting of SAITM fanatics held at Rathnapura yesterday. As the National Bhikku Front we hope that the student activists who are being treated in hospital would be well soon. As SAITM is an institution that is opposed by the people the fraudsters who maintain it have become agitated. Our belief is that yesterday’s incident was a reflection of this agitation.

According to statements of the injured students and information published in media it seems that a person known as ‘Bus Gemunu’ had taken the initiative to attack the students. If it is so we consider that chairpersons of bus companies acting as thugs should be a matter that should be taken into consideration. We express our opposition to the authorities who are mum as they are subdued by traders who sell education as they act as nitwits who do not comprehend the real meaning of the opposition to SAITM that has surfaced throughout the country. The President too once made a statement that he wouldn’t want to create doctors like making ‘koththu’ but is silent today. We would like to ask whether the action to close down Malabe ‘koththu’ boutique is not taken because the President, as told by the Tibet Bhikku, has been subjected to the ‘bribery sicknesses.

We would extend our fullest cooperation to all opposition campaigns that develop against SAITM until SAITM degree shop is closed down and the right for free education is affirmed and we call upon education authorities and the rulers of the country to close down SAITM degree shop.
