Min. Samaraweera stresses on religious diversity at Point Pedro event

Speaking in Point Pedro on Sunday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera stressed the importance of recognising the religious diversity in Sri Lanka. “We have been busy creating or placing a foundation for a new Sri Lanka. Based on the three pillars of democratization, reconciliation and development”,  said Minister Mangala Samaraweera

The Minister of Foreign Affairs added that in the area of democratisation. He said that the country has achieved quite a lot in this period of eighteen months and is now in the process of finalising the new constitution which will hopefully celebrate the diversity of the country. And it is time to come to terms with the fact that Sri Lanka is a multi-racial, multi -religious, multi-lingual country.

“I personally feel that one of the reasons for both the previous constitutions for not succeeding was the fact that it did not take this mater in consideration”,  he said

Minister Mangala Samaraweera made this statement at an event held in Point Pedro on Sunday morning where a mobile service initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was in operation which issued birth certificates, death certificates and forms for dual citizenship.

A group including Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran and MP Angajan Ramanathan as well as TNA parliamentarians were in attendance for the event.
