“Upcoming local government polls will be contested through a new alliance under a new symbol”, says former Minister Basil Rajapaksa…

The former minister expressed these views to the media following a court session where a case filed against him pertaining to alleged distribution of roofing sheets worth Rs. 33 million from the Divi Neguma fund in the run-up to the presidential election.

Filing of indictment against former Minister Basil Rajapaksa was postponed to October 10. The order was made as the second suspect in the case Kithsiri Ranawaka, who is the former Director General of Divi Neguma, was not produced in court today, Tuesday, August 30.

*Ranawaka is already in remand custody over alleged irregularities which are said to have taken place at the Tourism Promotion Ministry.

High Court Judge N.A. Karunathilaka ordered that all four suspects be produced in court on the 19th of October.

Meanwhile, the High Court has permitted a request made by MP Prasanna Ranatunga (former Chief Minister of the Western Province) and his spouse to travel overseas for two weeks.

The two face several accusations, including allegedly obtaining a sum of Rs. 64 million from a businessman, using threats, claiming it was for the eviction of a group of residents from a plot of land in Meethotamulla.

The case was postponed until September 30, for recording of evidence, as the third suspect in the case is currently overseas.
