SLFP celebrations to take place in Kurunegala
The 65th anniversary celebrations of the SLFP is set to take place at the Maligapitiya grounds in Kurunegala.
General Secretary of the UPFA, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says that all preparations have been completed, and that the Convention would commence at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Meanwhile, special security measures have been implemented in Kurunegala in line with the 65th anniversary celebrations of the SLFP.
Kurunegala SSP, Mahesh Senaratne says that 1500 police officers have been deployed to provide security for the event.
SSP Senaratne said that a special traffic plan will be in effect in Kurunegala and its surroundings from 12 noon on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Transport Board says that 1500 of its buses have been hired by the SLFP to transport party supporters to the Convention.
Chairman of the SLTB, Ramal Siriwardene, said that that the SLTB earned nearly Rs.19 million through the hiring of these vehicles.
