Gammadda 100 : Day 47 – A look back at the journey thus far

Inequality in our country is highlighted by the fact that many people have no access to water or electricity, basic infrastructure or even the means to build a place for worship.

Through the Gammadda 100-Days initiative, News 1st has created an avenue for this gap to be bridged.

The Gammadda 100 -Days Initiative, which commenced with three projects which worked off on July 20, has spread across the country, identifying basic needs and shortcomings and seeking to address these issues with the help of the people for the people.

Twelve of the numerous projects initiated in rural communities across all districts of the country, have already been completed.

  • Access road to Damanayaya – August 3.
  • Signal Lamp at the Pambala Fisheries Pier – August 6.
  • Elephant fence in Pathalayagama – August 10.
  • Clean drinking water for Hambegamuwa – August 12.
  • Renovation of a waterway in Kadduwa – August 23.
  • Clean drinking water for the villages of Wellawala A, Wellawala B and Diyawella – August 28.
  • A new health centre for the people of Balakotunna, clean drinking water for the village of Egasland – August 29.
  • Clean drinking water for the people of Kebithigollewa – September 2.
  • Clean drinking water for the village of Borala – September 3.

A further 25 projects commenced under the Gammadda 100-Days initiative are currently in the process of completion.
