Gammadda 100-Day Initiative marks 50 days of public service

- newsfirst.lk

Today marks the 50th consecutive day of the Gammadda 100-Day Initiative.

Together with the University of Peradeniya, the Gammadda Public Service Initiative went from door-to-door inquiring and collecting information on the hardships faced by the general public living in the most rural villages.

We decided to find solutions for the issues of the people that we came across during the Gammadda Initiative, without restricting ourselves to just creating databases. As a result of our intention to help the needy, the Gammadda-100 Day Initiative was born.

Gammadda 100-Day Initiative took into consideration the issues faced by the public, and selected the issues that needed urgent attention. Born with the renovation of the access road to Damanayaya on August 3, the Gammadda 100-Day Initiative has thus far completed several of its projects with the funds raised from the general public.

Our services spread from ridding darkness from the Wella fisheries Village in Chilaw to setting up and electric fence as a solution to the human-elephant conflict in Pathalayagama.

At the same time, clean drinking water was provided to Kiwulegama in Hambegamuwa and the Cheenagahabena canal in Malimbada was also renovated.

The Gammedda 100-Day Initiative went on to provide access to clean drinking water to the locals in Wellawala A, Wellawala B and Diyawella, following which water was provided to the Gonahaddenawa area in, Kebithigollewa.

People in Borala, Weligama, who did not have access to clean water for six decades, were provided water during these 50 days of the Gammadda 100-Day Initiative.

The happy tears of these people in rural villages strengthened the journey of this initiative.

Many other projects to resolve the issues in rural areas, which were unseen and unheard by the relevant authorities, are nearing completion. These projects, which will bring happiness to those who had been suffering for years, will be vested in the public in the near future.
