Udayanga is still not a suspect
It was revealed in Court today (30th) that former Ambassador for Sri Lanka in Russia Udayanga Weeratunga has not been named as a suspect in connection with the US$14 million ‘Mig’ transaction committed in 2006.
It was when the CID requested Colombo Fort Magistrates Court for the second time to issue a warrant through Interpol to arrest Weeratunga.
Fort Magistrate Miss. Lanka Jayaratna made the decision based on the legal provisions vested in the criminal procedure court as Weeratunge was not named as a suspect to the inquiry.
However, a warrant has been issued against Udayanga Weeratunga and the Magistrate ordered that he be noticed through normal channels.
Udayanga Weeratunga was seen participating in several events held when former President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited several countries recently.
