Villagers flee amid fears of escalating confrontation in Kashmir
Indian villagers living close to the border with Pakistan have been forced to flee following the attack by India targeting militants in Kashmir.
A number of people from villages in Punjab were leaving amid fears the confrontation might escalate.
Kashmir has been point of conflict for years and has been central to two wars. According to analysts India has previously conducted more substantial strikes without any serious escalation of hostilities. Both the nuclear-armed rivals claim that the Muslim-majority Kashmir in its entirety but control only parts of it.
