International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide on 8 March. As the National Mobile Services Provider, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel believes that women are a vital element in society and its development, from the upbringing of a family’s offspring to being a pillar in every family and organisation. Mobitel has over the years, supported this belief by providing special facilities and services for women in Sri Lanka.

In line with this initiative, Mobitel launched ‘Liyasara’, a special package for all women in Sri Lanka which enables customers to have easy access to information relating to  child psychology, cerebral palsy, maternal and new born health and cancer awareness, to name a few among a host of other areas.
In addition to these information services, all customers under 65 years of age obtaining the Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ package would be covered with a special life insurance cover. The premium for the insurance cover is included into the monthly rental, which is provided at a nominal fee. Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ customers will be able to enjoy the benefits of a Rs. 100,000 worth Life Insurance cover and a Rs. 500,000 Accidental Death cover.
Mobitel launched the ‘Liyasara’ package on International Women’s Day in the presence of First Lady Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa and other dignitaries at a special event at Temple Trees. The first Liyasara SIM card was presented to the First Lady.
The Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ package is inclusive of a limited bundle offer granting free Mobitel to Mobitel voice calls and SMS to its users and a free data bundle of 10 MB. ‘Liyasara’ customers are entitled to free minutes to access the ‘Liyasara’ voice portal, powered by Mobitel and can also use the mTunes facility free of any monthly subscription. ‘Liyasara’ voice portal is a lifestyle portal providing Mobitel customers with information on nutrition & dieting, cooking recipes, fashion & beauty tips, household remedies, child psychology & health and celebrity news. Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ customers can access the ‘Liyasara’ Portal by dialing 222.
Mobitel conducted extensive research with its partners prior to designing the ‘Liyasara’ package. Observations showed that women based in rural areas have no access to reliable and consistent information relating to maternal health, child psychology, cancer awareness and other important health concerns. The Mobitel ‘Liyasara’ special package was therefore created with the aim of empowering Sri Lankan women by granting unlimited and convenient access to credible information disseminated in all three languages by expert institutions such as the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation, Sri Lanka College of Oncologists and the Perinatal Society of Sri Lanka. Commenting on the occasion Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, Lalith De Silva said, “Mobitel remains committed to honoring and paying tribute to women of Sri Lanka, whose contributions towards their families and society have not gone unobserved.”
