Robotic revolution : World’s first robotic staffed hotel in Japan
Japan continues to have a problem with labour as Japan’s working population mostly consists of people aged above 65 and shrinking.
As a result of this, a robotic revolution is on the way in Japan and some experts predict that within a decade or two, nearly half of the jobis s could be done by robots.
The world’s first robotic staffed hotel where all the main staff are robots. This is located near Nagasaki.
The name of this hotel is “Henn-na Hotel”, which means “strange hotel” in English.
The hotel’s owner, Hideo Sawada, says he wants to make this “the most efficient hotel in the world” by reducing manpower and having 90% of staff be robotic.
The hotel’s technology is so high that the hotel rooms have no keys but a facial recognition technology and, the room consists a small robot which will switch on and off the lights and offer weather forecasts and wake up calls.
The hotel’s other robots include a giant mechanical arm in a glass case that stores luggage in individual drawers for ¥500 (£2.50). There’s also a foot-high “concierge” who explains breakfast times and locations (only in Japanese) and orders taxis. The porters are two rechargeable luggage trolleys as well.
However some claim that robots might be the future, but for hotel hospitality one can’t beat the human touch.
