Intelo empowers Tourist Information Kiosks

Intelo Networks (Pvt) Ltd., has developed the first ever digital Tourist Information Kiosks (TIKs) launched recently by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau under the aegis of Ministry of Economic Development.


To identify the locations of the Tourist Information Kiosks, Intelo has planned to up TIK directional signs at the discretion of the state regulations and will be consistent with the new Colombo Urban Image Strategy plan.
INTELO together with the SLTPB will also see the constant improvement of the functionality of the TIK’s as well as the development of the usage of the units in the months to come and is confident that this will help enhance the access to grow tourism in Sri Lanka for overseas holiday makers.
The first official TIK was launched at the Bandaranayke International Airport with the participation of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Managing Director Rumy Jauffer and Minister of Civil Aviation Priyankara Jayaratna.
The TIK similar to that of a Bank ATM machine provides handy information via an interactive touch screen in an accurate, trustworthy and timely manner. This way, tourists’ who are arriving to Sri Lanka will be able to get first hand information of the latest events, directions and news instantly.
The TIK has touch screen operational capability and comes in 10 languages – Sinhala, Tamil, English, German, Japanese, Dutch, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Italian. The machine is easy to operate and does not require instructions. Apart from providing necessary information to tourists, it will also facilitate to earn extra revenue per tourist visiting the country by way of providing easy access to products and services listed in the kiosk.
So far Sri Lanka has received 85,874 tourists to the country during the month of January this year. This is a year on year increase of 15.7 per cent compared to the 74,197 that the sector witnessed during the year 2010. At present all efforts are being targeting at reaching the 2.5 million mark by 2016.
