Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe in the 1st Test
“My heartiest congratulations go out to Rangana and his men – President SLC”
Sri Lanka Cricket is most pleased with the performance of the National team in Zimbabwe as they win their first Test encounter under the captaincy of veteran bowler Rangana Herath.
It was no secret that Herath was slated as the best man to lead the team in the absence of National captain Mathews and Vice-captain Chandimal, both of whom are injured.
Veteran Herath is the first bowler to lead the National side in 33 years, and has fully justified Sri Lanka Cricket’s faith in him, not only captaining the team to victory but doing so as the first Sri Lankan captain to win his maiden Test match.
President SLC, Hon. Thilanga Sumathipala was elated at the result and stated “I am most pleased at the consistency of effort that our team is showing. The right foundation of science, technology and human effort will always bring this sort of result. My heartiest congratulations go out to Rangana and his men, and not forgetting Ford and rest of the support staff”
Sri Lanka play their second Test in Harare on the 6th and will be looking to cement their series victory and step up the ladder in the MRF Test Rankings.
