Players to participate in Higher Tier Tournaments
SLC removes restrictions that see talent under-utilized
Sri Lanka Cricket announced today (28) in a widely lauded move, that any players who have participated in the national tournaments during the current season will be eligible to play in higher tier tournaments during the same season, subject to the club represented at a lower tier not participating at the higher tier.
The decision was made in consideration of circumstances whereby talented young players are forced to miss the tournaments due to employment obligations and the like, which have thus far rendered them ineligible to play at higher tiers. It was the consensus of the Executive Committee that such a waste of talent would only negatively impact the quality of Cricket in the country, and ultimately the nation.
The eligibility will however be subject to the players meeting all other requirements as per the Tournament rules.
The SLC Major Tournament 2016/2017 will commence on the 4th of December 2016, and SLC announced today that the postponement is due to severe weather conditions that have been affecting the island over the past few days.
