A formidable Test Team in the offing
The National Selections Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket is set to meet on Tuesday (28) to decide on a formidable team that would play the first two test matches against the Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka 2017 which begins on March 7th .
Accordingly it has been announced that Angleo Mathews will not be able to play the first two test matches. The first test match is scheduled to be held in Galle while the second is to be held at the P.Saravanamuttu Stadium.
Angelo Mathews would likely be available to play the One-day International and T20 matches thereafter. Despite his absence, the selections committee is confident that the lessons learned from the South African series will help in putting together a formidable young team to take on the first two matches against the Bangladesh team.
Meanwhile Coach Graham Ford who spoke on the team’s performance on their arrival noted that he was extremely proud of the way the team had performed during the last 10 days. “Australia looked at this (Sri Lankan) team as a tired, demoralized and an easy one for them to win against, but when we played we proved them wrong. We’ve made immense progress where the test matches and ODI are concerned. Sometimes we take a few steps forward and one step back but realistically speaking we’ve made a much progress.”
