It is the second anniversary of the election that formed the strongest people’s government in the recent history.

Exactly two years ago on 8th April 2010 the people of this country transformed its political path. At a time when the entire world was watching Sri Lanka, the people went to the polling stations to elect a leader who would be capable of steering the country towards development, following 30 years of terrorism. There were local as well as foreign attempts to undermine the journey of the leader who came to power. The UPFA sought a clear parliamentary majority for its leadership to create a free and developed future when the atmosphere was such. The people fulfilled their duties and gave a 2/3rd majority to the UPFA. It was also recorded as the election that made a huge transition under the preferential voting system. The UPFA won 144 seats out of 225 seats. The successful results of this decision are evident today. The developed nation lacked by one generation will be inherited by the future generation. The children of the land are prepared to reap the results of science and technology in a new world that will not know the terror of war. The communication tower that rises to the skies from Kokawil is linking the north and east with the south while the Nelum Pokuna Theatre built in Colombo will also strengthen the future of the country. It will not be long when aircraft will take off from the Mattala airport. The Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa harbour as well as the Colombo south harbour will be Asian giants in the huge economic progress. The capital is being transformed to a beautiful garden. While ponds and entertainment parks are being reconstructed, the urban people jog towards a healthy future on the newly built paths. The Yaal Devi train will start its journey to Jaffna soon, forging friendship between the two regions. The A-9 road, the newly upgraded railway line in the south and the southern expressway are providing the benefits of development. Massive development projects worth millions of rupees are being launched in villages. The village economy is being strengthened through Gama Neguma and Divi Neguma programmes. The leader who has recognized the people’s pulse has been sensitive towards the people to build the path to development. It has been possible due to the strong government created by the mandate given by the people two years ago.
