Kalmunai polity has forgotten the bitter tsunami experience

- itnnews.lk

The entire country was disturbed after tsunami warning sirens sounded yesterday, following the earthquake experienced in Indonesia. But reports from Kalmunai consolidated that there are still people who had forgotten the past sour experiences.

Following the strong earthquake off Indonesia yesterday, tsunami alerts were issued to 28 countries. Sri Lanka was included in the list of these countries. The Department of Meteorology took the initiative of even announcing the times in case a tsunami impacted the coastal towns. Accordingly the first city to be effected by the tsunami was Trincomalee. The Security Forces along with the authorities concerned took action to evacuate the people in the Costal area to secure locations. The danger was also imminent to the Kalmunai area in Ampara. However, a different situation prevailed in the Kalmunai coast. Our correspondents were able to capture this video footage as to how the people were having fun on the beach without taking any notice of the tsunami alerts.
Kalmunai was an area which was severely impacted by the deadly tsunami experienced in the year 2004. The people of this area also had also experienced this ordeal. But the authorities concerned emphasized that that they could not endorse the behaviour of these people forgetting their past experiences.
