Skipper back on the field
Colombo, 6th June 2017,
Sri Lanka Cricket today confirmed that Skipper Angelo Mathews will lead the team at Thursday’s (8) all important encounter against India.
Mathews who was sidelined by an untimely Calf strain ahead of the country’s CT17 opener against South Africa on the 3rd, has been declared fit by the team Medical experts, however he will show his prowess with the bat only in the game due to get underway at 10.30 am local time at the Oval on the 8th.
The full-time Skipper who returned to lead the Sri Lanka team after a 5 month hiatus caused by a recurrent Hamstring injury was relegated to the dressers after their warm-up game against Australia in which he scored a solid 95, when he strained his Calf during the game.
The return of Mathews will auger well for Sri Lanka who despite courageously fighting their ‘under-dog’ tag in the tournament with some gutsy performances have not been looked upon with favour by Lady Luck so far.
