President Maithripala Sirisena is to take a decisive decision on the SriLankan Airlines board of management, sources said.
The move comes following several allegations being raised against some board members, including the Chairman Ajith Dias.
The Cabinet, which met last week, also discussed the issue at SriLankan Airlines at length, sources said.
Ministers Ravi Karunanayake, Rajitha Senaratne and Sarath Fonseka noted at the cabinet meeting that the management of the airline was recruiting staff in excess of its actual requirement.
It was also noted that there is a split in the SriLankan Airline board of management and this was having a negative impact on the operations of the national airline.
The Cabinet had last week summoned the SriLankan Airlines board of management and instructed them to fully implement the ‘J. C. Weliamuna’ report.
The report had revealed several misdeeds said to have taken place under the former management of SriLankan Airlines.
The report had also made recommendations, most of which the new management had refused to implement.
Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne had informed cabinet that the current SriLankan Airlines management had recruited over 1,000 employees without informing the subject Minister.
Subject Minister Kabir Hashim, the Minister of Public Enterprises Development, had confirmed that he was kept in the dark on the recruitments.
The President had later said that he will take a decisive decision on the management of the airline.
