Govt. Insists No Final Decision On Mattala Airport
The government last week insisted that no final decision has been taken with regard to the Mattala International Airport.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera told reporters that the cabinet has agreed the airport needs private investments.
He said the airport has been running at a major loss and is in need of private investments to cover the losses, pay the staff and to make it fully operational.
Amaraweera however said that no final decision had been reached with regard to the airport and the joint opposition is fully aware of this. The joint opposition had recently staged a protest in Hambantota against moves to sell the airport to an Indian company.
Amaraweera however claims the protest had nothing to do with the airport and was related to politics in Hambantota.
