CID sleuths dispatched in search of Katuwana murderers
Inspector General of Police N.K. Ilangakone has said that continued investigations are in progress in the shooting incident at Katuwana. The Police made this disclosure at a media conference held at the Media Centre for National Security.
The Police Chief said that the Police have begun inquiries into the incident on the advice of the Defence Secretary. A team of CID sleuths was dispatched in the night itself for the conduct of inquiries. An eye witness has already given a statement with a regard to a suspect who was involved in the attack. The Inspector General of Police said that their inquiries are proceeding on this direction.
Expressing his views at this news briefing, Director General of the Media Centre for National Security said that the Police had already received 10 complaints in relation to the internal struggle in the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.
Mr. Hulugalla pointed out that in a statement issued earlier, he had said there had been different views and struggles with the breakaway factions of the JVP and that this could be an internal incident.
He said he had reports related to 10 incidents. These relate to inquiries made at the request on the JVP based on allegations made by the Party. Five of the 10 incidents are already in Courts. As such no one can say that the Police had not inquired the allegations made by the JVP. Ajith Kumara had made a complaint that a group from the JVP had made threats and influences on his Party and was launching attacks and that Tylwin Silva was directly involved. He had requested a Police inquiry into the matter.
Mr. Hulugalla pointed out that he possessed a letter making these allegations. The JVP within five to six hour had put up the same poster throughout the country. He said he doubted whether the posts had been prepared before this incident. According to history the JVP had finally ended up in weapons such as the T-56.
The JVP is a party which killed families of the Forces and the Police. In the 70s, 80s and 90s there was forest laws. But, he emphasized there is a reasonable law prevailing under the Mahinda Rajapaksa administration. It was the LTTE and the JVP which enforced different laws Mr. Hulugalla said that the Government had one Police Chief, one law and one President.
