DFCC Vardhana Bank (DVB), the everyday banking unit of DFCC Bank opened a new branch in Kilinochchi last week, thus adding to its already strong presence in the north.

The opening of the 127th Branch/Service Centre of the DVB network in the north is to cater to the ever-growing need for convenient and speedy banking, in a region that is currently seeing rapid development and growth.
The bank’s new branch was opened by the Chief Guest, DFCC Vardhana Bank CEO Lakshman Silva. Other dignitaries included N.D Daluwatte, DIG – Mullaitivu/Mankulam/Kilinochchi, Brigadier Renuka Rowel – Commander, 578th Division, SL Army and Government Agent Rubawathy Ketheesuwaran.
The opening ceremony was conducted in keeping with the local customs practised in the area, with the participation of clergy belonging to the main religious beliefs of the area.
“The rapid development taking place in Kilinochchi, led us to hand-pick this location for DVB’s latest branch. It is essential that the people in the area have access to speedy and convenient banking services – all imperative to ensure that they make the most out of their business activities. Kilinochchi is undergoing huge infrastructural changes, and this is one of the most apt times for us to engage with the people in the area and offer our services to them,” said Silva.
Customers can avail the benefit of a wide range of products and services including demand and savings deposits, fixed deposits, foreign currency deposits, personal loans for housing and higher education such as Vardhana Sandella, Vardhana Nenasa and Vardhana Leasing; gold-pledge loans and remittance services through DVB’s new branches as well as Vardhana Junior – a savings scheme for minors.
To mark the opening of the new branch in Kilinochchi, DVB organised the ‘Friendship Trophy,’ an inter-school volleyball and netball tournament, and an inter-club volleyball tournament as well. The sporting events were organised by the bank in association with the Community Police Division.
A three-day badminton coaching camp for budding badminton players of the area was also organised at the indoor courts of the 57th Division Headquarters in Kilinochchi with the assistance of Brigadier Renuka Rowel of the 578th Division of the Sri Lanka Army. Students from selected schools in the region were taught the basics of the game by members of the Police and Army Badminton Teams.
When asked why the bank undertook such an endeavour even prior to commencing business activities, the CEO of DVB Silva said: “As a responsible business entity boasting a 60-year legacy of helping Sri Lankans to develop, we are committed to do whatever possible to help bring back normalcy and economic prosperity to the masses. The younger generation of the region who were denied the benefits of indulging in sports and recreational activities their entire lifetime need such events to fast track their lives back to normalcy and we at DVB are more than happy to be a part of it.”
