Major fraud at temple IT centre
A computer training centre situated at a Buddhist Temple in Kiripitiya-Kurunegala was allegedly a front for major fraud, a police raid earlier this morning has found out. According to police the computer training centre set up under the ‘Mahinda Chintana’ programme was mainly for the use of children from low-income families in the village, but instead it was turning out fake driving licenses, national identity cards, currency notes and a host of pornographic material. The king pin behind the sordid racket was the chief priest of the temple who was subsequently taken into custody. Police are currently investigating the extent of the racket and are convinced that several more persons may have assisted the monk in the illegal; activities. Several computers, soft ware, printers and other material used in the centre were also seized by police. The Kiripitiya Police are conducting further investigations.
