Aussie dream dashed for group of eight
A group of eight persons belonging to two families were apprehended while attempting an illegal journey from a beach head in Tahalai Mannar in the north on Tuesday, a senior naval official said today. He said the group that included four children, two women and two men was picked up while attempting to board a fishing vessel after dusk and sail towards the Indian coast. Three fake passports were also recovered from the group, the official added. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the group had planned to board a larger vessel from South India that was heading for Australia with a group of other illegal passengers, he said. The arrested persons were later handed over to the Thalai Mannar Police for further investigations.
