TU’s flay Govt. on EPF issue
A grouping of 22 trade unions from both the state and private sector are to meet on Monday to discuss an action plan in connection with the alleged misuse of workers Employment Provident Fund (EPF) monies. Anton Marcus with the Free Trade Zones & General Services Employees Union (FTZGSEU) said that they had already written to President Mahinda Rajapaksa stating their serious concerns on the matter and future trade union action will be contemplated at the very earliest. He added charges that EPF monies were invested in the Stock Market could not be accepted at any level and that the government should come out with the details at the earliest because it had allegedly dealt with monies belonging to the poor working classes. "We are also looking at allegations on the misuse of the EPF funds for other government-sponsored projects as well", Mr. Marcus said.
