Tourist arrivals in July increase by 7.8 percent
Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals rose 7.8 percent in July this year compared to the same period last year.
Data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority showed that the month recorded 90,338 tourist arrivals compared to the 83,786 arrived in July last year.
Tourist arrivals from Western Europe reached 214,186 during the first seven months of this year. It is a 20.6 percent increase when compared with the corresponding period last year.
Arrivals from Eastern Europe increased 43.1 percent from January through July.
Sri Lanka targets one million tourist arrivals this year. Since the end of the war against the Tamil Tiger terrorists in May 2009, the country has seen increasing tourist arrivals every year for the past three years.
