The Royal Colombo Golf Course hosted Sri Lanka’s first ever Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) tournament from 14 to 18 August. This tournament saw top professional golfers from India and Sri Lanka competing for top honours on the greens. In keeping with its philosophy of supporting and nurturing young talent, BBDO Lanka sponsored the ‘best approach shot’ in the 12th hole.

BBDO Lanka Managing Director Santosh Menon explained, “It’s great to see an international professional golf tournament taking place in Sri Lanka – and to be a part of it has been an honour. This provides local talent much needed exposure and challenge, something that we at BBDO Lanka believe in – since this gives them a platform from which to compete at the highest level, honing their skills with the best. It was natural for us to step up and support this initiative that so positively enabled that. BBDO Lanka just completed a year as a ‘Force for Good’ in Sri Lanka and supporting the PGTI is yet another activity towards this goal.”
Pro Golf (Private) Ltd. Managing Director Chandana Weerasinghe thanked BBDO Lanka for their support, adding his hopes for greater involvement and support from corporate in the future. “We believe in the years ahead corporates will do more to enable us to conduct many more world class professional tournaments right here in Sri Lanka.”
Commenting on the high quality of sportsmanship and talent, Menon went on to add, “For us, the icing on the sponsorship cake was the fact that Mithun Perera emerged victorious. This does wonders for the self-belief of Sri Lankan golfers. Mithun’s win is a case in point of our hopes when taking the decision to support local talent. When opportunities to prove themselves at the highest level are available, Sri Lankan talent always steps up.”
BBDO Lanka is also South Asia’s first Carbon Neutral Advertising Agency and recently launched Asia’s First Air Cleaning Mechanical Hoarding – contributing to its recognition as a ‘Force for Good’.
