Sri Lanka’s SEC gets a new Chairman
Sri Lanka has appointed Dr. Nalaka Godahewa as the new Chairman of the country’s Securities and Exchange Commission.
This was confirmed to News360.lk by Deputy Secretary to the Treasury S. R. Attygalle.
Apart from the latest position Godahewa is currently holding the Chairmanship of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
Godahewa’s appointment comes following the resignation of the former Chairman of the SEC Thilak Karunaratne on the 17th of this month, saying that he was under intense pressure from certain quarters to resign.
In December 2011, the then SEC Chairperson Mrs. Indrani Sugathadasa resigned from the post saying that she wants to uphold her principals.
Meanwhile the SEC Commission has also got two new commission members.
Former Central Banker Priyantha Fernando and the former President of the ICASL Sujeewa Mudalige are the two new members.
Deputy Treasury Secretary S. R. Attygalle will continue to function as the Treasury representative while Central Banker Ananda Silva will represent the monetary authority.
