Arjuna Ranatunga slams the 7 over game played between SL and South Africa
Sri Lanka’s World cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga slammed the 7 over a side match played between Sri Lanka and South Africa in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.
Ranatunga says this type of cricket played between two international cricket sides is not good for the game of cricket.
He says, despite retiring from cricket many years ago, he and former players like Aravinda De Silva, Roshan Mahanama, Asanka Gurusinghe and some other former national caps will be able to comeback and easily play a seven over game without much trouble.
“You only have to be 20% match fit to play a seven over game”, Ranatunga told News360.lk.
“In a seven over game, you only have 42 balls and a player will need to run behind the ball may be three or four times a game” added Ranatunga.
Ranatunga was referring to the World T20 group stage match played between Sri Lanka and South Africa in Kandy last Saturday.
The game was reduced to a seven over a side match due to bad weather, which saw South Africa beating Sri Lanka.
“This is cowboy cricket, no technique is involved in it and is really bad for the game of cricket”, believes Ranatunga.
He blames the ICC for allowing such type of games to be played.
“ICC has to protect the game, but they go wrong every time”, says Ranatunga who is also critical of the T20 concept.
