Singer Finance appoints two new independent Non-Executive Directors to its Board

Singer Finance, one of Sri Lanka’s most trusted finance companies, recently appointed two of the country’s most respected business personalities to its Board of Directors. The addition of Marina Tharmaratnam and J. A. Setukavalar as independent directors to the Company’s Board was the latest reminder of the Company’s unstinting commitment to the highest standards of corporate governance.

As independent directors, Tharmaratnam and Setukavalar will be relied on to ensure that the Board always acts in the best interests of shareholders and to provide strategic guidance to the Company.  Tharmaratnam has served as the Director and CEO of Union Assurance PLC, Executive Vice President of DFCC Bank, and Company Secretary, Director and GM of Eagle Insurance, amongst many other prominent positions. Her wealth of experience in the financial services sector will allow her to offer invaluable insight and expert advice at the boardroom level. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Fellow of Institute of Management Accountants of Sri Lanka, a Chartered Marketer and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Renowned for his dedication to financial transparency and stakeholder rights, Setukavalar is a veteran of Sri Lankan boardrooms. He is the Finance Director and Company Secretary at Baur & Company for 22 years, and also served as a Finance Director at Fern Tea Ltd., and as an Audit Manager at PriceWaterHouseCoopers in Dubai. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and a Fellow of CharteredInstitute Management Accountants (UK and Sri Lanka).
