Sri Lanka Cricket plans to generate more revenues from stadiums
Sri Lanka Cricket is planning to transform its cricket stadiums to become sustainable revenue generating centers, which if done, would help the cricketing body’s ailing financial situation.
Sri Lanka has around eight international cricket stadiums with majority coming under the ownership of the SLC.
Among those ranks, stadiums such as R. Premadasa, Pallekele, Hambantota, Galle Cricket Stadium, SSC and P. Sara Oval.
Most of the stadiums are underutilized during most part of the year, except for few international cricket matches and domestic matches being played in those respective venues.
SLC, despite having plans to make those stadiums sustainable revenue generating centers, is yet to outline the model it will adopt to do so.
The Cricketing body believes, transforming its stadium properties into sustainable revenue generating centers is another step taken towards rebuilding Sri Lanka Cricket, not just as a brand but as an entity with a firm competitive advantage.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket during has earned Rs. 163 million through sponsorships during this year, while it has also earned income via TV and Radio Rights.
Accoridng to SLC, during the ongoing year, the national team has been able to muster a sponsor for ICC events, the first time such a sponsor has been found for ICC events.
