Sri Lanka tourism sees record arrivals during December

Sri Lanka has received 122,252 tourists during December, 2012, the highest ever monthly figure in the Island’s tourism history.

The country’s Tourism Promotion Bureau says, visitors from Europe, Asia and Middle East all grew during December.

Region-wise, Western Europe has brought in the largest number of visitors to the Island during December,  numbering to 43,699, an year on year growth of 29.6% compared to December, 2012.

Indian market has contributed to the highest number of visitors from a single country during December, accounting for 18,941 arrivals, an year on year growth of 8.5%.

The Island nation achieved 1 million visitor arrivals during the entire 2012, a record in the countries tourism industry.

Sri Lanka is planning to attract 1.25 million tourists during the ongoing year.
