Cinnamon Nature Trails (Kids Club) in collaboration with Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo will be launching the City Naturalist Award for children aged nine to 15 this April.

The City Naturalist Award is designed to inspire children to be passionate about nature and conservation. Whilst teaching children about nature in the city, the program also focuses on developing environmental awareness, responsibility and additional skills such as team work, leadership, creativity, photography, public speaking and communication skills.
The award consists of three lessons (conducted once a month) each with a different focus on nature. The first lesson (Celebrate nature) will focus on teaching children to appreciate the various flora and fauna found in the city. Children will participate in an art and craft session and learn basic photography.  The second lesson (Learn about Nature) will include an educational talk followed by a detailed study of birds and butterflies found around Colombo. Children will have to make their own ID kit and participate in group presentations highlighting what they’ve learnt. The final lesson (Share Nature) will include a field trip to a nearby Cinnamon Estate, where children will be able to conduct assessed nature walks drawing on all the knowledge they have acquired in the previous lessons.
The City Naturalist Award will run on Sunday 28 April, 19 May and 9 June from 3-5:30 pm at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo. Children must attend all three lessons to complete the award successfully and obtain their City Naturalist Award and Badge.
This award is conducted by Cinnamon Nature Trails (the ecotourism and adventure tourism division of Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts. This team includes experienced naturalists with diverse expertise). Adult supervision is provided for all three lessons which are conducted by the Cinnamon Nature Trails team who have extensive experience working with children and school groups.
Conducted by leading experts in ecotourism, this award provides an opportunity for your child to learn from some of the best naturalists in the country. Your child will learn about nature, learn to understand and respect it whilst developing a key set of skills to enhance their academic and personal development.
Each lesson requires children to practice their thinking, speaking, team work and communication skills with confidence. The award also teaches children the importance of striving towards a goal and upon completion will provide them with a great sense of accomplishment. All three sessions cost only Rs. 7,600 per child (inclusive of all learning materials, snacks, refreshments and field trip transport). Call 0770 221 321 or 2306816 or e-mail roshenka.khms@keells.com to book your slot today. Please note that there are only 30 slots available for the first program. Terms and conditions apply.
