Dubai to buy more tea from Sri Lanka
Representatives of the tea industry in the Emirate of Dubai have agreed to increase the amount of tea they purchase from Sri Lanka.
This was conveyed during a discussion held between the representatives of the Sri Lanka tea industry and the Dubai tea industry.
Dubai imports 70 million kilograms of tea annually. Of this quantity 20 million kilograms are imported from Sri Lanka.
The Dubai delegation has agreed to increase the percentage of Sri Lankan tea in the UAE market and up the amount from Sri Lanka to 25 million kilograms this year.
During the discussion Minister of Plantation Industries Mahinda Samarasinghe has pointed out that Sri Lanka’s tea industry is being carried in an eco-friendly manner and Sri Lankan tea is the only tea that has been accepted by the Montreal Convention as Ozone friendly tea. He has also said that the future tea promotion programs will emphasize the anti-oxidant benefits of Sri Lankan tea.
