ITN fetes award winning actor Jagath Chamila
Independent Television Network, better known as the Family Channel fetes International Award winning actor Jagath Chamila.
Jagath Chamila who won the Best Actor’s Award at the New York City International Awards Festival arrived at the Independent Television Network Head Office premises today amidst the warm greetings of a large gathering. ITN organized a special ceremony to welcome this actor in order to pay tribute to him to bringing pride to his motherland. ITN Chairman Rosmand Senaratne and Working Director P.G. Dassanayake along with the senior management as well as the entire staff joined in extending their greetings to Jagath Chamila. Many artistes were also present to extend their greetings. A cash award was also presented to him to strengthen and encourage his future career. Expressing his views on the occasion Rosmand Senaratne said that his institution will always be a strength to artistes who are desirous of traversing on a long journey discharging an outstanding service in the artistic sphere.
The Chairman said that Jagath Chamila challenge veteran artistes from major countries at the Awards Festival in New York City. He said he considered the award won by the actor as a significant achievement for the country. ITN wished to share his happiness. ITN is a media establishment which lends a significant helping hand to the teledrama sector. He told Jagath Chamila that it was in the middle of 1980s that got involved with ITN. He is continuing to tread on the path that he began then. The Chairman wished him strength and courage to display his skills and talents in the future.
Thereafter expressing his views at the Soorya Wimana programme telecast by ITN, Jagath Chamila recalled his past and his many achievements.
Jagath Chamila said that he was extremely happy the publicity given by ITN on the day he was nominated for the best Actor’s Award at the Festival, endorsing it as a magnificent victory. He said he wished to extend his sincere and wholehearted thanks first to Ravindra Randeniya and then to ITN for accepting him as a winner when he was nominated among the four for the Best Actor’s Award.
It was the Independent Television Network which recorded the Samanalakanda drama, which goes down in history as Jagath Chamila’s first appearance. Measures were taken to hand over a DVD copy of this drama to Jagath Chamila.
