“If tuition classes are stopped I will topple the government”-Upul Shantha Sannasgala

- lankacnews.com

The famous and popular private tuition Master Upul Shantha  Sannasgala had challenged that if  law s brought in to prohibit private tuition classes on Sundays he will take steps  to topple this government. He had quipped this while giving an interview to the ’Mawbima’ newspaper. He added that keeping the subject of parents sending their children to ‘daham paselas’ aside action would be taken to prevent offering alms to temples.

It was added by Upul Shantha Sannasgala that “it is not in private classes the abuses and crimes that take place in  but in various religious places. Hence he challenged to stop such activities instead of stopping private tuition classes. He went on to add that some may think that if children are sent to ‘daham pasela’ they will get reformed. The child will absorb and learn all good qualities and develop a good future. Others may think that if a child goes to ‘daham pasela’ he will get spoilt. As an example I can say that when attended to certain religious institutions what is learnt are underworld activities. In that manner when a child is sent to ‘daham pasela’ he will transform into a person like a LTTE terrorist.

In Sri Lanka child abuses are not happening or learnt at schools or at tuition classes. But only at religious institutions.  In that sense in tuition classes, in police, in camps of forces these activities are not found, but they are found in religious institutions. That type of attitude has now got developed in this country. What they are trying to do is not to make education the main subject in developing Asia but a religious corruption place” he had added.

Upul Shantha Sannagala had consented to contest in the last provincial council election in Sabaragamuwa under the UNP ticket. But he had pulled out later. He is the person who produced the controversial  Sinhala film” Thani thatuwen piyabanna”.
